Version 1.18.4 • Jun 16, 2026
What's new in this version of Newsbin This release adds thumbnail customization, automatic thumbnail discovery for feeds that don't include images, smarter refresh-on-open behavior, and important stability fixes for launch and backup. New - Thumbnail Discovery: an opt-in background scanner finds and attaches thumbnails for articles whose feeds don't provide one, such as TechCrunch. Enable it in Reading settings. - Thumbnail position: choose leading, trailing, or off in the article list. - Article row size has moved to Reading settings alongside the new Thumbnails section for easier customization. Improvements - Refresh-on-open now reliably triggers each time Newsbin becomes active, not just on cold launch, with throttling so it won't fire too often. - Manual refresh mode is now fully honored — Newsbin no longer auto-refreshes on activation if you've chosen Manual. - Changing your refresh interval reschedules sync across devices through iCloud. - Long feed refreshes now show a "Checking for articles… / Still working…" status if they run more than 15 seconds. - More responsive sidebar and list updates with centralized blocked-tag handling, reducing background database work during sync. - On macOS, the article list selection highlight uses a native, version-proof implementation instead of a third-party workaround. Fixes - Resolved launch crashes (RunningBoard "0xdead10cc") caused by database work and SQLite locking during init. - CloudKit imports are now debounced and skipped while the app is backgrounded to prevent rapid-fire work. - Fixed corrupt JSON in large backup exports caused by partial stream writes; backup writes now loop until the full buffer is committed and report errors instead of silently truncating. - Minor localization and layout cleanups across the article row and settings screens.
