Add a keyword, a community, a user, or a domain, and matching posts quietly disappear from your feed. Protego is a Safari extension with a companion app, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. WHY THE BROWSER: Reddit belongs in your browser. The official app is built to keep you scrolling; in Safari, you decide what Reddit shows you, and Protego does the filtering. No notifications pulling you back, no "get the app" walls, and no Reddit app on your phone collecting in the background. FILTER WHAT YOU CHOOSE: - Keywords - Hide posts whose title, body, or community name matches a word or phrase - Communities - Hide everything from a community, or block its page entirely - Users - Hide one person's posts and comments - Domains - Hide posts linking to a particular site - Social Media - Hide posts linking to X, Instagram, TikTok, and more Keywords go further: * matches a word and its variations, # matches any 1 to 3 digit number, and groups switch a whole set on or off at once. Any filter can be switched off without deleting it. See it working: Reveal Mode outlines every post a filter would hide instead of hiding it, and Preview tries a keyword before you save it. SET UP IN ONE TAP: Pick a preset (Off, Minimal, Balanced, or Focused) and Protego applies a recommended set of options, stripping out distractions to bring new Reddit closer to the old one. Fine-tune anything afterward. CLEAR AWAY THE CLUTTER: - Hide thumbnails, avatars, flair, badges, vote controls, award and join buttons, and community banners - Hide recommendations, promoted posts, login and app nudges, and Reddit Answers - Hide the strip of pinned highlight cards above a community's feed - Collapse or hide comments carrying media, and the moderator comment pinned to the top of a thread MAKE REDDIT EASIER TO USE: - Color-code comment threads by reply depth, with four themes to pick from - Jump between comments by reply depth, and return to the top of a thread in one tap - Open comment pages with every reply chain folded away - Open posts from a feed in a new tab, so the feed keeps your place - Bring back who posted on the home, popular, and news feeds - Skip Reddit's For You home test and return to Following (experimental) - Land on old Reddit automatically, with an endless feed - Give old Reddit the dark theme it has never had, and drop communities' custom styling PUT REDDIT OUT OF REACH: Filtering hides what you do not want to see. Limits goes further and blocks Reddit itself, a step at a time: Home and Popular first, then all main feeds, then everything but direct links to posts, then all of Reddit. Pair a limit with a Focus like Sleep or Study and it turns itself on. PRIVACY: No account, no tracking, no browsing history collected. Your filter lists stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. YOURS ON EVERY DEVICE: - One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro - No subscription, and optional tips are the only in-app purchase. Nothing is locked behind them - Lists sync over your own iCloud, even with the app closed - Works on new and old Reddit - English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese - Search every setting by name or by what it does - Import and export your lists - Stats showing how much Protego has filtered, with a shareable card Protego filters text: post titles, bodies, community and author names, and link addresses. It cannot read words inside images or videos. Filtered posts are hidden from your view. Nothing is removed from Reddit, and nobody is notified.
Version 3.8 • Aug 11, 2026
Protego 3.8 shows its work: what it is filtering right now, and what a keyword would catch before you save it. Filtering is invisible by design, which makes it hard to trust. Reveal Mode stops hiding and outlines every post Protego would have hidden, naming the filter that matched; Preview does the same for a keyword you are still typing, before you commit to it. Old Reddit gains something it has never had: a proper dark theme, checked for contrast across feeds, comments and communities. Comment pages can open with every reply chain folded away, and a new reset puts Protego back to how it started. No account, no tracking, and your lists stay in your own iCloud. WHAT'S NEW: - Reveal Mode: a button in the Safari extension popup shows what Protego is filtering instead of hiding it. Every post a filter would hide stays visible, outlined in red and tagged with the filter that matched. Nothing is saved and your stats are untouched. - Preview a keyword: try one on the page behind the popup before you save it. Every post it would hide is outlined with the matched word highlighted, so a wildcard's real reach is visible. Add it from there, or walk away and nothing is saved. - Dark theme for old Reddit: old Reddit has never had a dark mode of its own, and now it does, across feeds, comment pages, communities, the sidebar and search. Every color was checked for contrast, so text stays readable rather than merely dark. - Collapse reply threads: open a post's comments as a list of top-level comments with every reply chain folded away, then open only the chains you want to read. A link that points at one comment still opens on it, with nothing folded over. - Ignore community styles: render every community in old Reddit's default styling instead of the custom look its moderators set up, which often makes it harder to read on a phone. - Reset Protego: a new row at the bottom of Settings puts everything back to how it started. Reset your settings on their own, or reset them and erase every filter list at once. Your stats are never touched. IMPROVEMENTS: - Old Reddit's settings now sit on a screen of their own, at the end of the Transform tab, instead of mixed in with settings that shape both designs. Every setting keeps its name, behavior, and value. - Quick Help in the popup now opens the app on Get Help, rather than describing the route for you to follow. Get Help attaches your app version and device details, so what you send arrives ready to diagnose. - The two stats cards at the top of the popup now open the app on your Stats. - Erasing a filter list now removes that list's groups along with it, so an emptied list no longer leaves empty groups behind. FIXES: - A domain saved with a capital letter in it filtered nothing at all, while looking exactly like a working entry in your list: domains now ignore capitalization, and ones saved that way in the past start working without you re-adding them. - Protego's floating buttons sat over Reddit's comment box while you were writing: they now fade out while it is open and fade back when you close it. - The Protego button on a post or comment covered Reddit's "Join the conversation" bar: it now slides behind the bar as you scroll, the way Reddit's own buttons do. - Opening a settings search result in another tab could leave a blank page in that tab's history, so Back showed an empty screen: nothing is left behind now. - On old Reddit, a comment Protego collapsed kept the expanded marker on its toggle, so a folded comment looked open: the marker matches now.
